NotesIn the 18th Century England was running out of mature oaks because so many were being felled to build warships.  Foreign oaks were imported in the hope of finding quicker growing trees.  An accidental cross between a Turkey and a Cork Oak was spotted in William Lucombe's Exeter nursery in 1762 which was non-deciduous.  It was propagated and many sold around the area.  More about Lucombe Oaks if you click here.info
