A report on Sidmouth Arboretum’s finances to be reported at the AGM on Tuesday 18th January 2022
I start with a thank you to Paul Griew, Hon. Treasurer of the Sidmouth Cricket, Tennis and Croquet Club, who inspected the accounts and agreed that they were accurate.
2021 was a steady year for the Arboretum’s finances with a small deficit of £233.71. The balance sheet records a deficit of £633.71 because the year opened with the Arboretum holding £400 that belonged to the newly formed Sid Valley Biodiversity Group. Some of this was spent by the SVBG, the residue was transferred when they opened their own bank account.
As usual, our main source of income was a generous grant from Sidmouth Town Council, but we also received almost £1,000 in donations including £333 from the Waitrose Community Matters Fund, we are grateful to both organisations and the individuals who have supported us this year. The other income includes a sum of £270.40 from the Town Council to cover the costs of a visiting tree consultant engaged in a joint project. The remainder is from sale of copies of The Trees of Sidmouth book, we had part paid for the SVA to reprint this popular book.
The main item of expenditure was for the new website. We owe a huge vote of thanks to Stefan Drew for constructing the new website, and to Colin Walls for all his work over ten years on the former website. The majority of the remaining expenditure was meeting our two principal aims, engaging the public with our Tree Trail Leaflets and planting trees.
