Thank you to Sidmouth Town Council who have provided a Silver Lime to mark our passing the 14,000 planting target.
In 2022 we were set the challenge of planting 14,000 young trees in 5 years, one for each resident of the valley. We achieved this by planting hedging whips to create wildlife habitat hedges which will also help the River Sid Catchment Group’s project to slow the flow of water running off the high ground around the valley into the river after heavy rain.
The target was reached in December 2025 but we have carried on planting and there are now more than 17,000 whips in the ground that will grow into more than 3km of hedgerows.
We have to say thank you to all the volunteers who turned out in midwinter to plant the hedges, and East Devon National Landscape (formerly AONB), the Woodland Trust, Devon Wildlife Trust, Tree Council and National Highways for their generous grants and donations of whips that allowed us to achieve the target.
