Arboretum volunteers joined with Y2 children from the Primary School to plant a hedge at the Stowford Community Centre.
The Y2 Dolphins Class from Sidmouth Primary School helped us to plant a mixed hedge at the Stowford Community Centre last Friday. They also enjoyed a story telling session and an environmental board game. We have to say thank to Waitrose whose Community Matters Fund sponsored the planting.
The hedge is a mixture of native species with occasional fruit bushes mixed in. This will provide a natural larder to feed local birds and insects. We also planted three trees, an apple, rowan and spindle tree. Two of these were sponsored by donations from local people who came along to see the children working.
Jill Natusch was accompanied by her life-long friend Philippa Wright as she watched us plant a tree in memory of her husband Ian who loved the trees of Sidmouth. Malcolm and Sarah Seymour also joined us.
The planting is yet another contribution to the Queen’s Green Canopy, a national project to increase the country’s green canopy and commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
