Thank you Kelvin Dent who took a traditional jazz song and put words to it to create an Arboretum song for the Sid Vale Folk Choir at our Tree Celebration.  Here is Kelvin singing along with choir leader Tess Bisson, recorded by Ian Bisson.

Thank the Lord (for Sidmouth Arboretum)

Thank the Lord for Sidmouth Arboretum

Lord, Lord, Lord, we’ve got an Arboretum

Lord, Lord, Lord, it’s the best one west of Seaton

Lord, Lord, Lord, it never will be beaten

Thank the Lord for Sidmouth Arboretum.

It started out at first with tender early shoots

It grew and grew and grew whilst stretching out its roots

Now we all hold a stake in this body of repute

Oh Lord, please let our work bear fruit.

Our Civic Arboretum was the first one in the nation

We cherish it with love and tree-mendous admiration

It helps with conservation, health and education

Dear Lord, we’re filled with jubilation.

We plant our little trees with tender loving care

We plant them where there’s any land to spare

And everyone in Sidmouth always helps to do their share

Yes Lord, we’ve branches everywhere.

Lord, Lord, Lord, we’ve got an Arboretum

Lord, Lord, Lord, it’s the best one west of Seaton

Lord, Lord, Lord, it never will be beaten

Thank the Lord for our Sidmouth Arboretum.
